# Best WordPress Hosting

Managed hosting tuned for WordPress: caching, backups, staging, and support that actually understands WP. Skip shared hosting if uptime is revenue.

For revenue-critical WordPress sites in 2026, Kinsta (from $30/mo billed annually) remains our premium pick. Rocket.net (from $25/mo, and it states it doesn't raise prices at renewal) is the strongest challenger on value. On a budget, Hostinger runs low-traffic WordPress fine from $2.99/mo — just plan for the $10.99/mo renewal.

Three-year cost is twelve months at the advertised entry rate plus twenty-four at the rate the plan renews to. Three years, not five: managed-WordPress plans are re-tiered and re-priced far more often than a domain renewal, and a five-year figure would imply a stability that is not there. Cloudways and Rocket.net have no renewal step, so their total is simply thirty-six months at one rate. Every change we detect is dated in the price-change log (https://digitalhosting.com/price-changes).

Our own measurement

## What we measured about reliability

Across 45 days of five-minute checks from four continents, the widest reliability gap among the hosts on this page is Flywheel versus WP Engine: Flywheel logged 209 degraded episodes totalling about 87 hours, against WP Engine’s 46 episodes and roughly 19 hours. Hostinger, Pressable, Rocket.net and SiteGround recorded no incident of any kind in the same window.

Degraded means the site answered, but slowly — it is not downtime, and we never count it as downtime. We report it separately because on a managed plan bought for performance, a host that is slow for 87 hours in six weeks is the more likely thing to notice. Figures cover Aug 8 – Sep 22, 2026.

Degraded (slow) time

Flywheel: https://digitalhosting.com/providers/flywheel

DreamHost: https://digitalhosting.com/providers/dreamhost

No hard downtime and no degraded time across the full window.

**Cloudways and Bluehost** block our probes, so they are not measurable here and carry no figure either way. That is itself a finding and the study reports it as one. Not shown above: 20i, AccuWebHosting, Kinsta, KnownHost, Krystal, NixiHost, ScalaHosting, UltaHost, Ultra Web Hosting, Zume Hosting — either outside the study’s frozen cohort, or inside it and below the cutoff for the ten providers the report charts. We do not infer a figure for a provider we have not published one for. Full method, exclusions and the complete cohort: the Digital Hosting Uptime Study (https://digitalhosting.com/uptime-study). The raw incident records are published as open data (https://digitalhosting.com/open-data).

A New Jersey company (Vaghasia Group, since 2003) that is one of the few budget hosts still selling Windows shared hosting with Plesk and MSSQL, alongside cPanel Linux plans from $1.99 and self-managed VPS from about $5. It publishes renewal grids for the shared lines, which we credit — and those grids show most intro prices renewing at 2.5–2.9×, contradict the blog's 'renews at the same price' claim for two of Bootstrap++'s three billing cycles, and stop entirely at VPS, dedicated and reseller. The terms carry an early-termination fee equal to the rest of the term. Fine for a Windows site or a cheap test VPS; read the grid, not the card.

A Delaware-incorporated host (founded 2018, incorporated 2021) with an unusually wide footprint — VPS and VDS on AMD EPYC with DDR5 and NVMe in around 25 cities from Seattle to Seoul — at low prices: a 1-core VPS from $4.59/mo on three years or $6.89 monthly, managed and unmanaged at the same price. The problem is the paperwork. Every card says 'Renews at' the 40%-off sale price while the terms say renewal is 'at the then-current, non-promotional rate' and the homepage calls the discount a limited-time flash sale; the refund policy excludes the default two-year term, the dedicated line entirely, and 'plans purchased using a special promotion'; and there is no SLA behind the '99.99% uptime guarantee'. Good hardware, unverifiable promises.

| KnownHost (https://digitalhosting.com/providers/knownhost)Owners who want a published renewal price and a fast ticket queue See current pricing (https://www.knownhost.com/shared-hosting)Non-affiliate recommendation | Disclosed renewals, low-density servers | from $6.71/mo Basic Web Hosting, 3-year commitment renews at $8.95/mo Verified September 2026 | Ease of use: 4 of 5 | Performance: 4 of 5 | Support: 5 of 5 | Included | Included | Not included | The rare shared host that prints its renewal price next to the promo price — and the gap is 1.3×, not 4×. Ticket-first support with a 3-minute typical response is the other reason the r/webhosting crowd keeps naming it. |
| NixiHost (https://digitalhosting.com/providers/nixihost)Small US sites that want an owner-operated host on cPanel See current pricing (https://www.nixihost.com/hosting/shared)Non-affiliate recommendation | Independent cPanel hosting, Houston-based team | from $4.99/mo Mini Shared, billed annually ($59.88/yr); $7.99/mo month-to-month Verified September 2026 | Ease of use: 4 of 5 | Performance: 4 of 5 | Support: 4 of 5 | Included | Included | Not included | A 2007-founded Texas corporation that owns its hardware, runs the full LiteSpeed/CloudLinux/JetBackup stack, and answers its own tickets. The one gap: no published renewal price, so we can't call it flat. |
| Krystal (https://digitalhosting.com/providers/krystal)UK and EU sites that want one price, no intro games, and a phone number View Deal: https://www.awin1.com/cread.php?awinmid=117205&awinaffid=2917215&ued=https%3A%2F%2Fkrystal.io%2Fweb-hosting | UK hosting with no introductory pricing | from £7/mo (~$9.24), VAT included Amethyst, monthly billing; annual saves 16%, biennial 25% Verified September 2026 | Ease of use: 4 of 5 | Performance: 4 of 5 | Support: 4 of 5 | Included | Included | Not included | Krystal publishes a single price per plan and has done since it dropped intro discounts — the honest way to sell hosting. You pay for it: £7/mo is roughly 2× a US budget host's promo, and roughly what those hosts charge at renewal. |
| Zume Hosting (https://digitalhosting.com/providers/zume)UK small sites that want a no-contract monthly price that never moves See current pricing (https://zume.net/website-hosting)Non-affiliate recommendation | Flat UK pricing, monthly, no contract | from £6/mo (~$7.92), VAT included Launch plan, monthly billing, no contract Verified September 2026 | Ease of use: 4 of 5 | Performance: 4 of 5 | Support: 4 of 5 | Included | Included | Not included | Zume's pitch is a published promise: no introductory rates, no renewal hikes, no contracts, VAT included. At £6/mo month-to-month that is a genuinely different deal from the 48-month-prepay budget hosts — smaller company, fewer locations, same honesty premium as Krystal. |
| ScalaHosting (https://digitalhosting.com/providers/scalahosting)Sites that will outgrow shared hosting and want a managed VPS with its own free panel Check Current Pricing: https://www.awin1.com/cread.php?awinmid=82905&awinaffid=2917215&clickref=dh-provider-scalahosting&ued=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.scalahosting.com%2Fweb-hosting.html | Managed cloud VPS with SPanel | from $2.95/mo Mini, 36- or 12-month prepay ($11.95 month-to-month) renews at $11.95/mo Verified September 2026 | Ease of use: 4 of 5 | Performance: 4 of 5 | Support: 4 of 5 | Included | Included | Included | ScalaHosting's real product is the managed cloud VPS and SPanel, its free cPanel alternative — the shared plans are the on-ramp. Renewals are printed on every card, which we credit; the entry-tier step is 4×, which we count. |
| Ultra Web Hosting (https://digitalhosting.com/providers/ultra-web-hosting)Small US sites that want an owner-operated host with a long refund window View Deal: https://www.awin1.com/cread.php?awinmid=87691&awinaffid=2917215&ued=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ultrawebhosting.com%2Fshared-web-hosting | Seattle-owned hardware, 45-day refund | from $3.95/mo Ultra 1x, 3-year prepay; $6.95/mo month-to-month Verified September 2026 | Ease of use: 4 of 5 | Performance: 3 of 5 | Support: 4 of 5 | Paid add-on | Included | Not included | A 2002-founded Seattle independent that owns its servers, runs support from the same building, and offers 45 days to change your mind. The catch is the paperwork: its pages disagree about whether renewals match the intro price, and the terms carry a 150,000-inode cap and a 25%-CPU-for-90-seconds rule. |
| 20i (https://digitalhosting.com/providers/20i)Agencies, resellers and growing sites that want flat monthly pricing with no inode limits View Deal: https://www.awin1.com/cread.php?awinmid=25292&awinaffid=2917215&clickref=dh-provider-20i&ued=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.20i.com%2Fus%2Fweb-hosting | Reseller-grade platform, flat monthly billing | from $15/mo Startup, month-to-month ($1 for the first month) renews at $15/mo Verified September 2026 | Ease of use: 4 of 5 | Performance: 4 of 5 | Support: 4 of 5 | Included | Included | Not included | A UK-built platform with a Dallas data centre, sold in the US at flat monthly prices ($1 for the first month, then $15/mo for the entry plan) with no contract, no inode limits, free unlimited migrations and a white-label reseller panel that costs nothing. The trade-offs: there is no annual discount so the entry price is 3–5× the budget hosts, and the terms allow a price rise on 14 days' notice despite the 'no contract' framing. |
| AccuWebHosting (https://digitalhosting.com/providers/accuwebhosting)Budget shared, Windows/Plesk and self-managed VPS buyers who read the renewal grid before the promo price View Deal: https://www.awin1.com/cread.php?awinmid=91919&awinaffid=2917215&clickref=dh-provider-accuwebhosting&ued=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.accuwebhosting.com%2Fweb-hosting%2Flinux | Windows hosting and cheap VPS, US-based since 2003 | from $2.79/mo Bootstrap++, 36-month prepay ($5.79 month-to-month per the store; $3.79 yearly per the blog) renews at $2.79/mo Verified September 2026 | Ease of use: 3 of 5 | Performance: 3 of 5 | Support: 4 of 5 | Included | Included | Paid add-on | A New Jersey company (Vaghasia Group, since 2003) that is one of the few budget hosts still selling Windows shared hosting with Plesk and MSSQL, alongside cPanel Linux plans from $1.99 and self-managed VPS from about $5. |
| UltaHost (https://digitalhosting.com/providers/ultahost)Buyers who want a cheap DDR5/NVMe VPS or VDS in one of ~25 cities and will treat the 40%-off price as a first-term price Check Current Pricing: https://www.dpbolvw.net/click-101892060-15683477?url=https%3A%2F%2Fultahost.com%2Fvps-hosting | Cheap NVMe VPS and VDS in 25+ locations | from $4.59/mo VPS Basic (1 core, 1 GB DDR5, 30 GB NVMe), 36-month prepay; $6.89 month-to-month, $5.52 on the default 2-year term Verified September 2026 | Ease of use: 3 of 5 | Performance: 4 of 5 | Support: 3 of 5 | Included | Included | Not included | A Delaware-incorporated host (founded 2018, incorporated 2021) with an unusually wide footprint — VPS and VDS on AMD EPYC with DDR5 and NVMe in around 25 cities from Seattle to Seoul — at low prices: a 1-core VPS from $4.59/mo on three years or $6.89 monthly, managed and unmanaged at the same price. ## Is managed WordPress hosting worth paying for?

Pay for managed WordPress hosting when an hour of downtime costs more than a month of hosting, or when nobody on the team should be debugging caching plugins. Stay on budget shared hosting while the site is small and an outage is an inconvenience rather than a lost day. The decision is about the roughly $250 to $350 a year between the two, not about the sticker prices.

A managed plan bundles four things a shared plan leaves to you: server-level caching tuned for WordPress, a staging environment, automatic daily backups with restores that have been tested, and support staff who diagnose WordPress problems instead of saying a plugin is not their department.

At our most recent pricing pass, WordPress-capable shared hosting starts at Hostinger (https://digitalhosting.com/providers/hostinger) from $2.99/mo (48-month prepay), renews at $10.99/mo, while the managed tier runs from Rocket.net (https://digitalhosting.com/providers/rocket-net) from $25/mo (billed annually (1 site, 10 GB)), renews at $30/mo billed monthly to Kinsta (https://digitalhosting.com/providers/kinsta) from $30/mo (billed annually (1 site, 10 GB storage)), renews at $35/mo billed monthly. Cloudways (https://digitalhosting.com/providers/cloudways) from $11/mo (pay-as-you-go, DigitalOcean 1 vCPU / 2 GB) is the middle path, and it bills flat — there is no intro-to-renewal jump to plan around.

Estimate what one hour of downtime or one lost day of conversions costs you. If that number exceeds a month of managed hosting, buy managed hosting. If it does not, put the difference toward content and revisit when traffic grows. The measurements above are the other half of that sum: a managed plan bought for performance that runs slow for tens of hours in six weeks has not delivered the thing you paid for.

Watch the metering model too. Kinsta and WP Engine bill by monthly visits with overages, while Rocket.net publishes unmetered visits and caps bandwidth instead. Match the model to your traffic shape — a spiky site on a visit-metered plan pays for its best days. The true-cost calculator (https://digitalhosting.com/renewal-cost-calculator) runs the multi-year arithmetic, and the renewal price index (https://digitalhosting.com/articles/hosting-renewal-prices) shows which hosts raise the rate after the first term.

## Frequently asked questions

What is managed WordPress hosting?

Managed WordPress hosting is tuned specifically for WordPress: server-level caching, automatic core/plugin updates, daily backups, staging environments, and support staff who know WP. You give up some plugin flexibility in exchange for speed, security, and one-click workflows.

Is managed WordPress hosting worth the extra cost?

Yes if WordPress is how you make money, no if it's a hobby blog. Managed plans start around $20–$35/month vs $5 for shared. You get faster page loads, free migrations, real staging, and support that understands WP — worth it when an hour of downtime costs more than a month of hosting.

Kinsta vs WP Engine — which is better?

Kinsta runs on Google Cloud with strong global performance and a polished dashboard. WP Engine has a deeper enterprise feature set, developer tools like Local, and longer track record. Pick Kinsta for performance and UX, WP Engine for advanced workflows and agency tooling.

What plugins are usually banned on managed WordPress hosts?

Most managed hosts ban caching plugins (they cache at the server), backup plugins (they handle backups), some statistics plugins, and anything that conflicts with their security rules. Check each host's disallowed list before migrating — it's usually published.

Can I host WooCommerce on managed WordPress hosting?

Yes. Kinsta, WP Engine, Pressable, and Nexcess all have WooCommerce-tuned plans with persistent object caching and tuned MySQL. Expect to start at $30–$50/month for a real store — shared hosting will choke on checkout traffic.

What's a visit-based plan and how do overages work?

Managed WP hosts price by monthly visits (unique IP/24h). Cross the cap and you either upgrade tiers or pay overage fees (often $1–$2 per 1,000 extra visits). Real traffic estimation is hard — check how each host bills overages before committing.

Can I migrate an existing WordPress site without downtime?

Most reputable WordPress hosts run a free guided migration. Whether downtime is actually zero depends on your DNS TTL and the provider's tooling: lower the TTL a day ahead, let the new host build and test the site in parallel, then cut over. The migration column in the table above shows who includes it.

Whether downtime is actually zero depends on your DNS TTL and the provider's tooling: lower the TTL a day ahead, let the new host build and test the site in parallel, then cut over. The migration column in the table above shows who includes it."
