## Migadu, beyond the scorecard

Plan details and prices as published on migadu.com, September 7, 2026, with the Standard tier's price read in July 2026 — verify with the vendor before you buy.

### Plans, as published

Migadu sells capacity, never seats. Micro is $19/yr for 5 GB of pooled storage; Mini is $90/yr for 30 GB with substantially higher limits; Standard is $290/yr. The first two were verified September 2026, the Standard figure read in July 2026. Every tier carries unlimited domains and unlimited addresses, so your fifth domain and your fiftieth alias cost nothing. For anyone coming off per-mailbox pricing this is a structurally different product rather than a cheaper version of the same one.

The constraint that pays for the price is outbound volume. Micro caps sending at 20 messages a day — a hard, enforced limit rather than a fair-use guideline — while receiving is not capped at all. Mini lifts the limits substantially. That single number decides the purchase: 20 a day is right for personal correspondence, signup confirmations and role accounts, and wrong for a working business inbox.

The fundamentals are standards-first: full IMAP, proper SPF, DKIM and DMARC support, catch-alls, aliases and wildcard addresses, with an admin console built around multi-domain setups — per-domain mailboxes, aliases and rewrites are all first-class, which is precisely the workload capacity pricing attracts. Migadu is a small Swiss operator. Its pricing page reads like a terms sheet, publishing storage, message-volume expectations and what each tier tolerates, and we count that in its favour: vendors who document their limits this precisely are easier to trust, not harder.

### The renewal math

There is nothing to decode, which is the point: renewal equals the entry price on every tier, as verified September 2026. Micro is $19 in year one and $19 in year five. No intro discount, no term lock, no renewal step anywhere in the lineup.

The comparison that makes the model visible is a five-mailbox team at ongoing rates. Migadu Micro: $19/yr in total, because mailboxes are free and storage is the thing you bought. MXroute Small: $59/yr, the same flat shape. Fastmail Standard, the cheapest Fastmail tier that supports custom domains: $300/yr. Google Workspace Business Starter: $420/yr. Migadu sits an order of magnitude below the per-seat hosts for that shape of workload, and the 20-a-day cap is the entire reason it can.

Where the arithmetic turns: one light-sending user is $19/yr at Migadu against $60/yr for a single Fastmail Standard seat — a 3× gap. Two people with real sending volume need Mini at $90/yr against $120/yr for two Fastmail seats, which is close enough that you are choosing on product rather than price. Against MXroute the crossover is sharper still: once daily sending matters, MXroute's $59/yr undercuts Migadu's $90/yr Mini.

Renewal figures come from our Hosting Renewal Price Index (https://digitalhosting.com/articles/hosting-renewal-prices) — intro vs renewal pricing for every provider we cover, verified on vendor sites and dated.

### Choose Migadu if

- Owners with several domains who want every address in one place at a flat annual fee
- Receiving-heavy use: personal mail, signup confirmations, role accounts, archival domains
- Teams paying per mailbox for mailboxes no human reads daily
- Anyone who reads pricing pages and wants to reward a vendor that publishes its limits
- Standards users who will bring their own IMAP client and configure SPF, DKIM and DMARC themselves

### Look elsewhere if

- Your daily outbound volume is real — Micro's 20-messages-a-day cap is enforced; budget for Mini at $90/yr
- You want polished native apps — the webmail is functional rather than pleasant and there are no native mobile apps
- You need hand-holding support with a fast SLA; the cheap tiers are deliberately self-serve
- You need shared documents, drives or video calls — that is suite territory, and Migadu does not pretend otherwise
- You send bulk or marketing email, which Migadu prohibits; use a transactional service instead

### Migration notes

Inbound and outbound are the same story, and after the price it is the best argument for Migadu: everything is standard IMAP, so any migration tool pulls mail in or out, and because unlimited domains come on every tier you can cut over one domain at a time instead of doing a big-bang switch. The order that keeps downtime at effectively zero is the usual one — import the mail first, then change the domain's MX records. Your addresses belong to your domain rather than to Migadu, so the cost of leaving is a DNS change and an IMAP sync. As with any small provider, keep independent backups of mail you cannot afford to lose; that is a habit we would recommend regardless of host.

### Honest limitations

The 20-messages-a-day cap on Micro is the thing buyers discover rather than read, and Migadu states it themselves — believe them. Storage is pooled across every mailbox and every domain rather than allocated per address, so 5 GB is 5 GB in total, not 5 GB each. Support is self-serve by design at the cheap tiers: the documentation covers most of it, but this is not the host for a team that expects same-day human replies. We have not verified a refund policy or a published uptime SLA for Migadu, so budget as though there is neither until you have it in writing.

We have not independently measured Migadu's deliverability, and public forum reports run in both directions for every small email host; what mostly determines whether your mail lands is your own SPF, DKIM and DMARC configuration rather than the name on the envelope. On availability: Migadu is one of the seven email hosts in our uptime study's frozen 37-provider cohort, but no per-provider figure for it is published in the 45-day interim report — it appears neither on the zero-incident list nor in the published degraded top ten, so there is no number for us to quote yet. The full 90-day report is due early November 2026. We run no performance or load testing on any provider — see how we test.

Testing status: we haven't load-tested Migadu ourselves yet. This profile is built from vendor documentation, published plan specs and SLAs, and long-running community reports — and the pricing above is verified on the vendor's site, not copied from marketing. See how we test (https://digitalhosting.com/how-we-test) for exactly what that means.
