Our take
ScalaHosting's real product is the managed cloud VPS and SPanel, its free cPanel alternative — the shared plans are the on-ramp. Renewals are printed on every card, which we credit; the entry-tier step is 4×, which we count.

Pros
- Renewal price disclosed on every plan card; anytime pro-rated money-back on shared, reseller, and VPS
- SPanel included free — a genuine cPanel alternative with SShield security — and free migration of any number of sites
- Owned infrastructure in Dallas, New York, Seattle, and Sofia, plus AWS and cloud regions for managed VPS
Cons
- Mini renews at 4× the intro ($2.95 → $11.95); Entry Cloud and VPS headline prices are the 12-month rate, and 36 months costs more
- Strict shared fair-use — 3% CPU on Mini, 500 outbound emails per domain per hour — and a clause barring intro pricing on the same domain for 12 months after you decline a renewal

ScalaHosting, beyond the scorecard
Plan details as published on scalahosting.com (plan pages, order-form data, terms), September 25, 2026 — verify with the vendor before you buy.
Plans, as published
Shared hosting is four tiers with the renewal printed on each card: Mini at $2.95/mo (1 site, 10 GB NVMe, shared CPU), Start at $5.95/mo (unlimited sites, 50 GB, free domain), Advanced at $9.95/mo (100 GB, free domain), and Entry Cloud at $14.95/mo (dedicated 2 CPU / 2 GB, 50 GB, free dedicated IP, priority support). The $2.95–$9.95 figures apply on both 36- and 12-month terms; month-to-month bills at the renewal rate. Entry Cloud's $14.95 is the 12-month price — 36 months is $24.95/mo, the opposite of the usual discount. Every plan offers SPanel free or cPanel for $1/mo more, visible in the order form rather than on the page. The WordPress hosting page is the same four plans relabelled. Data centres for shared: Dallas, New York, Seattle, Sofia.
The flagship is managed cloud VPS: Build #1 at $29.95/mo (2 cores, 4 GB, 50 GB NVMe, unmetered), Build #2 $44.95 (4/8/100), Build #3 $69.95 (8/16/150), Build #4 $94.95 (12/24/200) — again 12-month headline prices, with 36-month terms costing more (Build #1 is the exception at $29.95 either way). Unmanaged VPS runs $19.95 to $122.95 with SPanel on demand, and managed AWS instances from $61.95. SPanel is ScalaHosting's own control panel, bundled free 'as an alternative to the rising cPanel prices'.
The renewal math
Disclosed everywhere, steep at the bottom: Mini renews at $11.95 (4.1×), Start at $14.95 (2.5×), Advanced at $19.95 (2×), Entry Cloud at $39.95 (2.7×). Managed VPS renews at $54.95 (1.8×), $96.95 (2.2×), $170.95 (2.4×), $244.95 (2.6×); unmanaged VPS at 1.25–1.5×. Three years of Mini is $106.20 up front, then $143.40 a year — a first term that costs less than a single renewal year, which is Hostinger's shape with a shorter lock.
Two clauses from the terms sharpen this. A renewal invoice is generated seven days before expiry and, unless you have already filed a cancellation in the dashboard, 'the Client confirms their agreement with the current renewal prices announced on the website'. And if you decline to renew at the standard price, ScalaHosting 'reserves the right to refuse the activation of a new hosting package for the same domain/site for a period of 12 months' — you cannot cycle back onto the intro rate. Upgrades renew at the higher plan's standard price with no promotional discount.
Renewal figures come from our Hosting Renewal Price Index — intro vs renewal pricing for every provider we cover, verified on vendor sites and dated.
Choose ScalaHosting if
- Sites that expect to move from shared to a managed VPS within the same provider — the migration up is free
- Anyone who wants cPanel's job done without cPanel's per-account licence, via SPanel
- Buyers who value an anytime pro-rated refund on shared, reseller, and VPS plans
Look elsewhere if
- Set-and-forget budget buyers — Mini's 4× renewal is a mega-brand-sized step, and the terms lock you out of re-buying the intro rate
- High-volume mailers on shared — 500 messages per domain per hour on Mini, and ScalaHosting says over 5,000 a month needs a VPS
- You want technical phone support — the phone line is pre-sales only; tech support is 24/7 chat, email, and tickets
Migration notes
Inbound: free for any number of sites from any platform, per the terms and knowledge base, with a scheduled transfer window; upgrades between ScalaHosting servers are free too, while lateral moves are not. Outbound is standard cPanel, or SPanel's own backup export. Cancellation must be filed from the client dashboard (My services → Manage → Request cancellation); emailed requests are not accepted and processing can take up to 7 days — file before the renewal invoice generates, seven days ahead.
Honest limitations
The 'Anytime Unconditional Money-back Guarantee' is real but not unconditional in the terms: new clients only, full refund within 30 days, pro-rated refund of unused time after that, and it excludes dedicated servers, domains (a free domain is charged back if you refund), and software licences — the knowledge base and terms disagree on SSL certificates. The 99.99% VPS uptime claim has no credit tier of its own: the terms' credit table starts at 99.9% (0% credit) and reaches 100% only below 99.0%. Shared fair-use is a CPU percentage (3% on Mini, 5% Start, 9% Advanced) rather than a published core count. The terms carry no last-updated date, name no governing law, and may be changed 'without notification'. Scala Hosting LLC lists a Dallas address; we found no ownership or independence statement on its pages, so we don't make one. Founded 2007; owned servers and network since 2010 per the company timeline.
Two further details from the ScalaHosting review article that now redirects here. ScalaHosting advertises a 15-second average support response and 98.9% satisfaction — its own numbers, unaudited, and we have not measured them. And cPanel is available on managed VPS rather than only as the $1/mo shared add-on: $32.95/mo for a five-account licence at the time of reading, which is the figure to compare against SPanel being free.
Testing status: we haven't load-tested ScalaHosting ourselves yet. This profile is built from vendor documentation, published plan specs and SLAs, and long-running community reports — and the pricing above is verified on the vendor's site, not copied from marketing. See how we test for exactly what that means.
